Lose Weight Without Trying

Picture

It is possible to lose weight without trying. Here’s how. Instead of focusing on losing weight, focus on being at the weight that you want. Placing your attention on your overweight body or worrying about not being able to lose weight will only draw you toward those results. According to the Law of Attraction, you get what you focus on. You get what you habitually “think” about.

A large part of the Law of Attraction is how you feel when you focus on what you do NOT want instead of what you want. How motivated can you get if you are constantly thinking about your excess weight or your fears about not being able to lose it? If you direct your attention and thoughts on the outcome that you want it will motivate you to do the things you need to in order to reach your goal. This will lead you to being able to lose weigh without trying because your efforts will be directed at achieving your vision of your ideal body weight and not on losing weight. It’s really that simple.

I hear a lot people say that diets don’t work. I agree. Here’s why I think they don’t work. First, many diet programs are set up in way that makes a person become dependant on them, or on some pill, in order to achieve and maintain their proper weight. I believe that people need to learn how to lose weight and maintain it on their own. They need to learn how to find the strength and the methods that work for them inside themselves. Secondly, I feel that maintaining your proper weight is a lifestyle choice not a periodic event.

I still remember some of things I learned while working at a girl’s diet camp. A girl’s diet camp is a place where girls and young women go for six (6) weeks to lose weight and learn how to keep it off. I worked at this camp for three (3) summers in a row during my late teens. I started out as a kitchen aid and soon became a cook. In this position, I worked with the executive chef in all food preparation. I also assisted in the management of several camp activities. These camps were held in Lake Tahoe during the first two (2) years and in Hawaii during the last. As you can imagine the scenery was quite spectacular! So much so I stayed in Hawaii for almost two (2) years after the last camp session ended. If you’re interested, I describe my Hawaiian adventure in an article on my Solotopia.com site entitled, “Romantic Getaways to Island Paradises.”

Here’s what I learned. Each year many of the same girls would return. Most of them had gained the weight back or put on even more weight! Generally, I didn’t hear about or witness any significant long-term success stories. While the girls were at the camp, most of them did lose weight but it didn’t last as far as I know. I concluded that the girls and women who attended these camps came there expecting someone else to do all their internal work for them. They expected someone else to create their motivation and commitment to achieve their idea weight and maintain it. This happened even though one of the goals of the camp was to teach them a new lifestyle. The camp management did a better job of instilling this message each year. Perhaps if the camp had continued they would have eventually discovered the formula that worked.

There are exceptions as to why some people become overweight that I would like to acknowledge at this point. These would include, but not be limited to, severe medical and psychological problems. These areas fall outside of the scope of my knowledge and experience.

I’ve never been grossly over weight. I’ve been around 10-15 pounds over weight a few times in my life. Until recently, that was the case but I lost the weight using the methods I’ve described. It took me about six (6) to 12 months. Today (‘09) I am right at the correct weight for my height and frame size. This is not too far from the weight that I was in college. And that was a LONG time ago.

My method to lose weight and maintain it follows the suggestions I have discussed along with one additional strategy that works for me. I do not think about losing or maintaining my weight. I only think about all the benefits I get by eating right and exercising. That’s it! I also keep a mental picture handy of myself at my ideal weight for those times when I need a little extra motivation. Using this strategy, I have been able to lose weight when I chose almost at will.

If you want to lose weight and maintain it, try keeping your focus on these three (3) things: (1) An image of yourself at your ideal weight, (2) all the benefits you get by eating healthy foods and exercising, and (3) how good and motivated you feel when you’re doing and thinking about number 1 and 2.

Life is a lot more fun if you are at your proper weight, or at least at the weight level that you’re truly comfortable with. If you’re not comfortable with how you look, then start a program to lose weight right now! Once you force yourself to take action and get some momentum, you’ll begin to lose weight before you know it. Choosing a healthy lifestyle will help get you there.
