You are never alone except for a tiny part of you. The part that’s uniquely you, the part that no other person completely knows or understands.
If you are hurting right now, my heart goes out to you. I’ve been there many times myself. It feels incredibly lonely in that place. It feels like you are the only person on earth who feels as you do. Any emotional pain seems to bring out and amplify the feelings of being alone.
The truth is you are never alone with any problem that you are facing. There are hundreds of people in the world, probably thousands, who are experiencing the same situation as you are right now. It’s comforting to recall this truth when you are going through a tough time. It also gives you a more realistic perspective.
We are all part of the same human family. Our differences are so small that they can only be seen with a microscope. Therefore, what we experience and feel is almost identical. This is why we are never alone with our problems. And it doesn’t matter whether a person is rich or poor, we all share many of the same problems.
I became aware of this reality when I traveled outside the US for the first time in my early 20s. I had the opportunity to spend a summer in Greece, mostly on the island of Kalymnos. Although the language, culture, and lifestyle were completely different from my own, I was amazed to find that the Greek people had the same personal problems as we had in the US. I was fascinated by how similar we were internally even though our external environments were so different.
My fascination with this area never left me. Whenever I had the chance to talk to someone from another country, I’d always ask them the same set of questions to find out if their personal problems were similar. They were always the same. It didn’t matter what ethnicity, nationality, or religion they were. I eventually concluded that we are never alone in the problems we experience because there are always other people in the world going through the same thing.
The tiny part that’s different is your unique makeup and life experience. This is what separates each of us from each other. There’s no way to identify clear similarities in this area. In this tiny way, we are each completely alone, but not separate. As I mention before we have infinitely more similarities than differences. So in that sense, we are never alone.
Your uniqueness is your only true guide on what’s best for you, however. No person on earth is better qualified to give you guidance than you.
Your unique makeup and life experience are contained in your mind, mostly in your subconscious mind. This tiny unique part of you is your compass, your guide, and your best friend. No one else has access to this part of you. Not even the most educated and gifted psychiatrist in the world! This navigational information is delivered to you in the form of intuition or gut feelings.
Your ability to overcome whatever problem you are facing has been proven over and over again for hundreds of years. Our ancestors have confirmed that we can persevere and prevail over almost anything.
Geneticists believe that at this point in human history, it is likely that most of us have at least a few genes from the people of all the continents of the world. That means that you might have a few genes from Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Alexander the Great, Cesar, Aristotle, Plato, da Vinci, Michelangelo, Mozart, Einstein, or whoever else you can think of.
“A gene is the basic unit of heredity in a living organism. All living things depend on genes. Genes hold the information to build and maintain an organism’s cells and pass genetic traits to offspring.” – Wikipedia
Let’s assume for a moment that you have a couple of genes from several of these great men. Do you think there’s a chance that you might be able to bring out these genes to your advantage if you concentrate and believe it’s possible? People can heal themselves of cancer with their mind. Why can’t you activate the best of what’s in you by focusing your thoughts on that outcome?
If you think what I am saying is nonsense and that it won’t work, that’s the result that you will surely get! On the other hand, if you believe it’s possible and you have a little faith that it can happen, then you’re likely to see a positive result — maybe an incredible one!
If all of this is just too far-fetched for you, then just look at the heroes in your own family tree. You certainly have a good supply of their genes in you. All you have to do is look at the strengths and talents that you admire in them and see if you can recognize and bring them out in yourself. This may not be easy though. These traits may have never been accessed, used, or activated. You may have to look very hard to see whether you have them.
Some genes and traits are passed on to certain family members, some are not, while others are modified, dominant, or recessive. Dominant and recessive refer to a genes’ ability to express itself or not. For example, dark hair genes are usually dominant over light hair genes.
If you consider how your hero relative had to dig deep and stretch him or herself to accomplish what they did, then you will have an idea of what will be required for you to achieve similar results. From that point, your accomplishments may go beyond what they were able to achieve. And in doing so create a higher benchmark within your family tree and therefore establish your own legacy.
When our lives are going well, we rarely feel alone. But when problems come the feelings of being alone can be pretty intense. During these times, it’s imperative that you remember that you are never alone with whatever problem you are facing. It’s also important to remind yourself that you do have the proven ability to triumph over whatever challenge you are facing.
You are never alone.
